More sun and snow

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

The predicted snow stayed away today and it was another day of blue skies and sun. It was our ski lesson today, so after a lazy morning and a French breakfast in La Omlette ( a restaurant we remember visiting during our summer visit here in Chamonix) we met up with our instructor who drove us to the Grande Montets and took us right to the top. The photograph was from here and shows Chamonix from 3,500 m.

After a poor start with Me and Richard both struggling to change our normal style of skiing and ending up in the snow, we persevered and Cecelia managed to teach us how to maintain more control on steep icy slopes and moguls – hopefully we will remember it all again tomorrow. Ben and Matt we both very pleased when they were told their technique was good and they both descended through the off-piste powder and moguls with style.

Another Beautiful Day

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Another beautiful day on the slopes and again vary cold although we managed to find a warm spot in the sun to have lunch.

We were on the northern Brevent range today, so the southern facing slopes got the sun all day but it took us about an hour of queuing before we reached the top of the gondola.

No major falls today but Ben, Matt, Ben and Bex were too quick for us to keep up with. Slopes seem to be quiet in the mornings and then quite busy in the late afternoons, haven’t figured out why yet.

First day on the slopes

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

Beautiful day, but very cold. Skiing was brilliant and slopes were empty for most of the day. Richard had a spectacular fall, tumbling about 50m down a mogul field, fortunately he walked away from it but our banana lunch wasn’t quite do lucky.
