Thoughts after 3 weeks

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Ok, been here for 3 weeks now and thought I’d add to my earlier thoughts on what I’ve seen so far.

1. People are extremely friendly here – more so than at home I think, although it may just seem that way because we’re on holiday.

2. I love the fact that everyone is really proud to be American, particularly how they like to fly their American flags. I think I’ll get a flagpole and fly the English flag on our house when we get home (only when Mandy isn’t around of course).

3. Utah is a fantastic state – loved everything about it which surprised me because I didn’t really know anything about Utah before we came.

4. Denny’s do great breakfasts and are almost everywhere.

5. The TV is still rubbish and the radio still almost constant commercials.

Thoughts after a few days

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Been here for 5 days now – sat in Disneyland waiting for everyone to come out of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride so thought I’d jot down a few thoughts on what I’ve seen so far of California and how it compares to home. I must admit that we’ve only seen the touristy part of California so far and so it is probably not particularly representative. Not all my thoughts may be politically correct but no offence is intended.

1. Service is superb, be it in restaurants, theme parks or shops – they make you feel like they really want you in their establishment. Not all of this can be down to the tip culture.

2. They certainly know how to do a theme park and make it very easy to spend your money.

3. Credit cards are processed very differently here. No chip and pin, they swipe your card and may or may not ask you to sign. even if you do sign they don’t check your signature.

4. I might be imagining it but there seem to be a lot more very large people than at home.

5. There is so much variety here, from places to go, things to eat and drink, landscape – everything really. Makes you want to live here.

6. The TV is rubbish and the radio is almost constant commercials.

Universal Studios

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

The Studio Tour was brilliant, we were attacked by a very life like TRex but saved by King Kong having been battered around in our extended golf cart and knocked down the vine tangled abyss.

Managed to talk my way out of a further soaking – Richard had no such luck.
